Charity Running

Every mile, every dollar, every reason to keep going.

Why I Run

I run to honor my grandfathers. And as a practice of self-love, challenge, and celebration of life.

Paul Buford Price

P. Buford Price (1932–2021) was a physicist at UC Berkeley who served as Dean of Physical Sciences from 1992 to 2001. He co-developed the nuclear track-etch technique — a method that found applications across geology, planetary science, and high-energy astrophysics. He was among the first scientists to analyze lunar samples returned by the Apollo astronauts and later helped build cosmic-ray detectors deployed on the Russian Space Station. A founding member of the AMANDA collaboration (now IceCube), the neutrino observatory buried under the South Pole, his curiosity led him from cosmic rays to glaciology to extremophile bacteria living in Antarctic ice. Elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1975, he trained generations of students and was known for his generosity, charm, and infectious enthusiasm for discovery.

Patrick Henry James

Patrick Henry James (1940–2024) was born in Altus, Oklahoma, and built a distinguished career in finance and law. He served as a partner at Goldman Sachs, where he managed the firm's operations in Tokyo for eleven years. Beyond his professional life, he was deeply committed to the arts and healthcare — serving as Chairman of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle and on the boards of the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Chamber Music Society, and Henry Art Gallery. Married to his wife Mary Ann for 63 years, he is survived by her and their three children: Kathryn, Matthew, and Michael.
